Fellow Mustang enthusiasts, is there a more QUIET electric engine fan available on the market. Just took possession of our 66 coupe that was having overheating issues (recently dropped in a new 347 Stroker crate motor). So my brother-in-law recommended throwing a new aluminum radiator in it, with a Syclone electric fan (2500 CFM airflow). While this setup fixed the overheating issue, the noise from the Syclone is HORRENDOUS and detracts from the overall muscle car cruising experience (I mean, instead of thump, thump, thump, through town; it's like flying a small scaled/engined gas R/C plane down the street--wheeeeeeeeee!). Good God, wasn't expecting that! Okay, I understand that you have to either cool it down or burn it up...but isn't there a more QUIET electric fan option out there?
Appreciate any feedback y'all might have. Thanks...our 66.

is it an air rushing sound or a siren sound..
do you have a thermostat??? and a fan controller???? or does the fan just run all the time..
electric radiator fans are NOT designed to run all the time.. the shaft gets hot and melts the center of the blade out do to the inductive heating depending on the fan design..
there are some creative cooling fan controls that actually vary the speed of the fan.. ..
the whole idea of electric fans is they only need to be one.. when the thermostat cycles hot coolant into the radiator.. the fan comes on.. cools the stationary coolant.. while the coolant inside the engine picks up heat.. until it reaches the thermostat opening temp again..
you will probably want to select a 180 F thermostat.. and a matching fan switch. or set the controller so the fan comes on just as after the thermostat opens then closes..
just sitting idling.. the thermostat should open and close. the fan on and off..
the bypass hose from the thermostat housing has to be there and flowing properly.. for this to work...
all the new cars use electric fans that cycle..

without a thermostat.. the coolant will circulate so fast through the radiator.. it cannot be cooled and you will have a run away cooling system..
without a thermostat.. HIGH rpm engine operation can build so much water pressure in the radiator. that is expands the oval tubes in aluminum radiators and closes the gap for the air to flow between them.

Not familiar wtih the fan you are using, but S-blade or curved blade fans are a bit quieter than straight blade fans, however you often lose a little cfm due to the design. Check the specs from a quality fan company (Flex-a-lite, SPAL, etc.) and spend the money for a good fan. The $30 fan many sell either do not have an IP68 water resistancy rating (meaning getting the fan wet in a rain storm could ruin it) or the MTBF rating is low, sometimes just a few thousand hours, and you'll be replacing the fan in three months.
I also agree with Wayne's comments. My '90 (dual SPAL fans) and my Cobra replica (single large SPAL) both use fan controllers/thermostats to run the fans.
HTH... Mark .

Louder pipes.
Mustang Man, it IS a Flex-a-lite product. Quote from Flex-a-lite Syclone ad, "16" Sweep blades engineered for quiet, efficient air flow" http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/syclone.html So you would strongly disagree.
Seriously, I went that route with my 347. Had to go from 3-row to 4-row copper. Then 4 years ago I added A/C and in Wichita Falls, TX, the 4-row was not enough. I went with the Northern alum. rad., Old Air electric fan/shroud thermostat control system (S-blade)2320 CFM. It does make noise that can be heard at idle but not while driving/cruising(courtesy of the 2 chamber Flowmasters). Are you sure there is not some tiny something brushing against the blades? Just sayin'.
This is what I have and I can live with it. Old Air is not the only supplier. The one below is identical and from Champion. It came with a 30 amp fuse and it kept blowing them, Old Air then recommended 40 amp and then there has not been any problems in 4 years except a relay sticking that I replaced last year.
