Howdy, first post here. Having trouble sourcing a starter for my resto '65 302 GT350. Don't want a mini hi-torque. Any help greatly appreciated.

first.. you have a 65 body style.. but those came with 289 not 302 motors.. if you installed a later 302/5.0 into that it might require a different starter ... so some more info is needed.
are you looking for a starter restored to concourse condition????
is yours an automatic or a manual transmission???? different starters..
the automatic cars use a 3124 and the manual transmission cars use a 3132..
there might be some NOS autolite starters still kicking around.. caveat emptor.. if i got it right..

I might have the starter you are looking for. If you can answer the questions in the previous post i can check for you. I have some original starters kicking around.

I have owned my '66 early GT350 for 43 years. It came with a 4 speed. The first time I replaced the starter I purchased one for a manual trans and it would not fit into the hole of the stock aluminum bellhousing and compared to the failed starter, it was bigger in circumference. I don't know what the deal is but it's been the same in different towns and auto parts stores. It has always taken a starter for an automatic trans, according to the part #s. I built a '68 302/347 stroker in 1998 and in 2006 put in T5 with a late model bellhousing and modified it for the early style pivot fork and used the same starter I was running in the original 289 HiPo engine and Borg Warner 4 spd MT-10 trans. I don't know why this is true but it's just my experience.
