will a 85 conv top work with a 89 conv?

i have a 1989 lx 5.0. top is shot. guy is selling a 1985 top with frame. 85 is in great shape with no rips or tears. will it fit mine?

also is it easier to replace the top with the conv top on the frame or taken of the frame and put in.

1983-90 Mustang convertible top material and frames are all the same. You can either swap the material to your frame, or simply bolt in his complete frame/top assembly into your car.
The '91-'93 tops are different. The top material changed to an internal rear welt (no plastic strip with chrome end caps on the top above the rear window) and the top frame changed to lower the overall "stack" height. If you look at a '91-'93 with the top down you'll see it is lower than yours. This also necessitated a change in the well liner (deeper) and the top boot/pads too.
