Hi folks,

I'm rebuilding a Holley 1940 for a '66 Mustang straight six. When disassembling the carb there was no evidence of the ball & weight in the carburetor. My rebuild kit contains the ball but no weight which I'm assuming was lost by a previous owner. Is it possible to get a replacement weight from somewhere or would someone here happen to know the specifications for it (material, length, diameter, weight) so I can fabricate one myself? The car did run without it, but of course I'm rebuilding the carb for a reason, not sure how the absence of that ball and weight actually effect it though.

Thanks for your help,

Grant

can you post a LIST number off the carb...  i have a holley parts manual at home.. where i can get at it probably tuesday night... if somebody does not describe the check ball weight you need....   there is a small .. very small chance that holley may still have one...   if you have a check ball.. its probably aluminum.. just slightly smaller than the hole it fits in.. sometimes they have 3 flats to allow the fuel to flow around.. you might be able to modify an old needle and seat  Needle out of some other carb where you replaced it..

i did run across this site... but as many parts they have for various versions of that carb.. they don't show that one..

Thank you. The numbers stamped on the carb body are-

4694-2
3185

I do have the replacement ball in the rebuild kit so all I seem to need is the weight. It's beginning to look like I may have to just "fake it" and fabricate something myself like you've suggested.

Thanks again,

Grant

List R-4692-2AAA is a replacement carb for Ford 250 CI motors for 69 and 70 models...

holley replacement part # 40R-493 is the holley replacement part number... item 61 on ill # 38-1  called Pump Discharge valve weight...

Thanks folks. I've had no luck locating the part and ended up cutting a piece off of the "shaft" of the old choke diaphragm assembly and using that. Seems to be working ok so far. Thanks again for your assistance!
