Hello, I was rebuilding the carb and as we were playing with the choke plate, this piece of plastic snapped off. I don't know exactly what it was attached to but it looked like maybe a rod hooked through it?
Anyways, the car starts and seems to run as normal when idling (have not taken it for a drive yet)...but of course this piece was there for a reason, so want to make sure before I attempt anything further...

thats a walker products 85-100 lever

there is a rod attached where the top broke.. it connects to the next piece down...
its held on with a tiny C clip... please remove the C clip and the rod so it does NOT tangle in something and hold the throttle open..

The plastic part looks to be part of the fast idle system that idles up the motor when the choke is functioning, and is taken out of the way as the choke heats up and no longer needed. Operating temp. Why it's having trouble idling when cold.
When cold, it pulls a cam or screw around that's adjustable to get your fast idle cold start rpm's up. Need to make sure, when at operating temp, is fast idle screw is not in contact so your regular idle screw is not defeated.
Last, all this happens after you get the idle air mixture screws optimized, timing set, vacuum leaks and anything that could effect your idle out of the way first. If not, just screwing the idle screw up will run the risk of adjusting the butterflies past the idle air circuits and this is a major thing that happens alot.

thanks cushman!! It is still stalling after playing with the screws...I put them back into their previous position, ordered the part and it should be with me soon. I'm glad to hear that this may be the cause of the stalling and hope it will fix it.
Unfortunately, that little area of connections is really confusing. I've been playing with it quite a bit and I just can't see how those will all connect. I've been looking at schematics and pics, but they don't really make sense. Is there any direct photo of an actual carb that has that area all connected? It may become simpler after I take off the round circle lean mix knob sitting in front of it

Check out some of the photos in my Autolite 2100/4100 rebuild story, they might help with the choke housing and the linkage setup:
