The '64 1/2 designation refers to early built models, but will indeed always be titled as a '65, as that's what they were sold as (extended sales/production model year). The easiest way to determine a '64 1/2 is by its unique features such as fixed passenger seat, horns mounted on the strut rod frames, generator instead of an alternator, and unique hood leading edge styling by the headlight buckets. There are others, but those are the most obvious. Of course production date too if you have the original door tag. '64 1/2 models are those built March 9th of '64 through mid-August of '64.

The D-code 289 is also a '64 1/2 only engine option, so that pretty much sums it up right there...

would like to know what colour you motor is, and check the date code on the drivers door too, wondering if your motor valve covers are gold, or a robin egg blue, i have a car built aug 17 1964 which makes it first day of production for the 65 model year, but it does have some 64 1/2 parts on it too

CJ, you're talking about $500 to $1000 for parts + paint costs. Is the car worth that much to you?
