Working on restoring a 1968 Coupe and was attempting a brake conversion. Found 1970 spindels and brackets cheap and a calipers and pads with new hardware so I thought i was good but with new spindles, disc and brakets on I am having trouble sliding the calipers on. The clarence between the pad mounted on the caliper and the disc is to tight and i can't slde it on. Does anyone have any thoughts? Or does anyone have dimensions on the calipers and/or mounting brackets? I could machine the bracket or caliper to get more clarence but it would be good to know if the caliper is off or the braket is off. I suppose even the spindle or the disc and bearings could be off but with out knowing any dimensions I don't know where to begin.

there are about a dozen articles in the tech section on brake conversions...
can you take images of what parts you have... perhaps with forging and stamping numbers to help identify which parts you have.... so we can help you...
you can use photobucket imageshack or any of a dozen more sites to post images..
different brackets/spindles use different calipers...
it the rotor too far out.. or too far inboard to slide the caliper and pads in????
you could even take a video and post it to you tube and then the link here..

I've posted the image the first sort of shows my problem. This is the drivers side had to force it on but now the rotor won't turn. Caliper Pics
The next is the passenger side rotor when i just set it on it still needs to go down about 1/2" forcing it down creates to much friction on the rotor.

The next pics are from the back of the rotor showing the caliper and how it rides on the mounting bracket. Their is a shoulder on the caliper I'm thinking this maybe it but it does keep the caliper away from the bracket so that the rubber bushings for the caliper bolts don't get pinched
Another pic

Try torquing the wheel bearing nut to about 25ft lbs, and then back it off, looks almost like the rotor is not back far enough due to a wheel bearing race not seated.

I'm thinking you have the wrong wheel bearings in use here. There are different bearings that will fit the rotor but be too tight or too loose on the spindle. I've installed brake kits from Master Power Brakes on the '67-'68 and the '69-'70 Mustangs and they come with both sets of bearings, as it is easier to ship both sets than try to determine what the owner has on the car and have a potentially upset customer. I don't have the bearing numbers in front of me, but a good parts store should be able to look it up for you.
I always test fit the bearings on the spindle before installing them in the rotor too. Saves the time of knocking them back out (and their races) when I install the wrong set (been there done that, got the T-shirt).

perhaps this will help identify the bearings.. the numbers at the right are the cone and cup numbers that are actually visible on the bearings themselves first part is the inside. second is the outside race.

Thanks all I already corrected the bearing issue. The spindles i purchased were 70 spindles (though they sold them as 68's) so I had to get the larger bearings to match. That got me closer but still a little off. Ultimately i took a grinder cleaned up a little flash metal from the poor caliper casting where the caliper met the caliper bracket and i was good to go. Again thanks to all.
