broken choke on 2100

i have a 2100 holley carberator and i recently rebuilt it and iv had a couple problems
i had to take off the choke spring to loosen the housing and when i put it all back together the choke plate didnt open all the way.
ive spent upwards of 3 hours tring to figure it out without success and im getting frusturated.
help please!!!

This might help. Holley Performance Products provides award-winning technical support via phone Monday through Friday from 8AM to 6PM CST, and Saturday from 9AM to 3PM CST @ 270 781-9741
Those old choke springs, at operating temp should be engaged with a two fingered rotating arm inside the choke housing and the bimetal coil should be holding with slight tension, the choke plate wide open. Block the throttle plates open so that when cold, it should close to it's cold setting. I always set the choke with engine hot so I'll know what it will do at normal temps.

some have a half moon in the choke housing gasket...
did you take the lever out of the choke housing?? could the lever be on the wrong side of the fast idle cam...

since you are rebuilding the carb...
lets take a step back and make it run right....
find some .023" mig welding wire.. if you can...

I realize the fast idle lever is not in the right position, yet I am not entirely sure how to fix it. I should add that I am a novice mechanic.

that does not look wrong...
i had a thought... you might not know.. that the choke won't close unless the throttle is opened to release the fast idle cam steps from the end of the fast idle screw.... that involves a partial opening of the throttle that also operates the accelerator pump to richen up the start..
now.. look at the other end of the lever with the fast idle screw... do you see the bent end... when you open the throttle more than about half way.. that levers the fast idle cam OPEN ...
this makes sure that the choke can be opened if you get in and hammer down on the throttle with the choke still closed. .. it also allows you to force the choke open to clear a flooded motor..
since we are on chokes.... electric chokes can be retrofitted if you can get an electric choke thermostat from a 2100/2150 carb... or the parts store for one...
to power the electric choke on your fords... hook them to the STAtor wire from the alternator.. this has to remain connected to the voltage regulator ... why.. that circuit was what ford intended to operate the electric choke.. it has voltage only when the engine is running and the charging system is operating.. it has half the output voltage of the alternator but it has AC voltage instead of DC.. this won't effect the voltage regulator as it uses the AC signal to vibrate or control not the voltage but the speed the voltage regulator contacts pulse.. so changes in RPM do not effect regulated voltage output..
