Anybody know if there were different thicknesses of ring in the original (standard) steering wheel for the '65 Mustangs?

I have one original steering wheel (damaged) and one replica (new) that measures the same 2 1/2" around of the ring, also have another original (with wear signs but very good) that measures 2 5/8". I can't explain to myself why the difference.

Much apreciate your comments, thanks in advance.

Is this possibly due to different production places ie dearborn, or san Jose is it possible that they had slightly different presses that produced the parts and pieces for these steering wheels.  I'm just thinking out loud.

Thanks Luke, it's a good clue. Let us see if any other can confirm it, or contribute another idea.

Hi all, the 2 1/2 (crackle) belongs to Jul 65 Dearborn produced Mustang, the other 2 5/8 was pulled out from a 65 Mustang to replace it for one with wood ring, since very many years ago. So I can't know the specific date nor plant.
I never noticed this difference till now when I try to replace the damaged steering wheel with the one stored for many years, also all reproductions that I know measures 2 1/2.
