I was wondering if anyone had a good source for solenoids as I keep getting junk ones that have shorts in them. During start they either continue engaging the starter or when the key is off keep the engine going. All problems are solved by tapping with a wrench.
Cole Hersee # 24022 12V Grounded Intermittent Duty SPST Solenoid 750A make, 100A break, 10sec On, 20min Off. Contacts: Copper. Terminals: Copper. Small ignition and ground ..should be available at most truck electric shops.. and a few better alternator starter shops..i have sent cole hersee notes about creating one with slightly bigger bolts in the sides.. 3/8 instead of 5/16... and bigger contacts on the inside of the case..if you have some units that have failed.. drill out the rivets. replace them with machine screws.. the spring might not be strong enough to separate the contact disc.. a short stretch might help...i don't have any that are defective other than the one on my van or i would open one up and show you the insides.. i wonder if they screwed up some of these with incorrect wiring inside.. or just too tight a clearance on items inside..
in looking around rockauto and oreillys might be able to get you a motorcraft SW3..
Thanks I will check those out. I forgot one critical piece of information this is a 1966 289 2B.
i do my best to live up to johnny carsons Carnac the Magnificent where i tell you whats wrong with your car before you ask me the question..i can actually do that in real life..
O'Reilly's Motorcraft SW3 that Waynecylopedia mentioned has been a good and reliable one on my '66. Carnac usually knows his 'noids.
"Standard" brand name works unless they have gone to china now like many others. Any kragen, checker, etc.
